It been almost 2 weeks since myself and the Weebly team returned from WHD 2015 conference. It was yet another great WHD event. Congrats to Soeren and Christian for hosting yet another great event and for assembling a great line up of speakers including Edward Snowden and Steve Wozniak. Well done!
For myself and Team Weebly, WHD was a significant event. On Monday, March 23rd, we announced the official launch of the Weebly for Hosts program. WHD was the perfect venue to make the announcement and collect great feedback from existing and new reseller customers. The press release is here.
Weebly for Hosts marks the first time we have opened the Weebly platform up to Web Hosts and given them access to our core web site creation plans. On Tuesday, March 24th, Nick Dellis and I gave a keynote presentation discussing the launch. However, the majority of our presentation was focused on educating the audience on some key trends we see in our core base of 30M customers. This was a great opportunity for us to remind everyone that opportunity to resell web site creation tools remains big. One of the data points I shared during our chat was that last year we conducted a survey on the Weebly customer base. One of the questions we asked was, "Did you own a web site prior to joining Weebly"? 50% of the respondents answered "no". This was just one data point that reinforced how many people have yet to take the first step in getting online and creating their own personal web presence online. It remains a key reasons why we want to partner with web hosts of all sizes to capitalize on this growing market.
In addition to the keynote, we also had a 10x20 booth at the show. Biggest lesson I learned at WHD is the eveyone wants to see a demo of the Weebly tools in action. It makes sense. The best way to see Weebly in action to watch us quickly build a high quality site right before your eyes. For future shows, we will be investing in more flat screen TVs to show of our tools!
We also had the opportunity to do several interviews. We met with 451 Research and Structure Research to outline the goals for 2015 with Weebly for Hosts. And, of course, we made time for Nicole and TheWHIR team to do a video interview about the launch and plans for the rest of the year. You can watch the video here.
Last but not least - the best part of these conference is meeting with customers. The feedback on our service was invaluable and it has really made an impact on our roadmap for this year. I am very encouraged by what I heard from web hosts, registrars, and telcos. There is alot of excitement in the Hosting space this year and everyone has big targets they want to achieve in terms of customer acquisition and growth. I am looking forward to working with our partners on beating those goals.
It would not be an official Chris Sheridan blog post without some photos from the event. Enjoy!
